18-year-old arrested as officials investigate Orangevale cat deaths

The person who reported it to deputies said she had evidence of someone entering her property on two separate occasions.

ORANGEVALE, Calif. — A Sacramento County 18-year-old was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of animal cruelty after a cat was found dead in a yard in Orangevale.

According to a news release, the investigation started back on Sept. 7 when deputies were sent to a home in the 9400 block of Deanna Avenue for a report of two stolen cats.

The caller told deputies she had evidence of a person entering her property on two separate occasions – the first time the person was seen harming a cat and the second time he was seen stealing another cat.

Ultimately one of the cats was found dead in a nearby yard, and the other was never returned.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old Colin Lendewig was arrested Tuesday. He is accused of cruelty to animals and petty theft.

There are no other suspects in the case, the sheriff’s office says.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information can call the sheriff’s office at 916-874-5115.
