7 ways to save at the California State Fair

Special days and discounts have been announced for guests looking to save some cash as they head to the Fair.

Special days and discounts have been announced for guests looking to save some cash as they head to the Fair.

1. Pre-sale discounts available through July 12

Discounts for Fair admission tickets will be available until July 12 at 11:59 p.m. Regular admission on the day of the Fair would cost $14 for adult general admission, however, if purchased within the discount period online, Fairgoers can get $2 off on general admission tickets for adults ($12 with discount), children ($8 with discount), and seniors ($10 with discount). A $1.25 service fee will apply if purchased online.

A discount is also available for the unlimited ride wristband. This will reduce the price from $35 to $28 The discount ends July 12 at 11:59 p.m.

2. SMUD Cares at the Fair Giving Monday: Every Monday

On Mondays, guests who bring at least three nonperishable food items per person to the California State Fair before 3 p.m. and receive free same-day admission. Donations from the event go to the Elk Grove food bank.

Items especially needed include canned meat, peanut butter, disposable adult briefs, Ensure, baby diapers, socks, canned fruit, canned veggies, soup, beans, mac and cheese, pasta, boxed mashed potatoes, packaged rice, top ramen, and cereal.

3. Kids Free Tuesdays: July 17 and 24, 2018

Kids ages 12 and under will be admitted to the California State Fair for free. $2 rides will be available for everyone.

4. $2 Taste of the Fair – Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Smaller versions of everyone’s favorite Fair foods will be available for $2. These smaller portions could be optimal for little kids or anyone looking to sample the many treats available at the California State Fair. The smaller portions will be available Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

5. Military Appreciation Day presented by Bloodsource: July 19

Active duty, reserve, and veterans from all branches of the military receive free admittance to the California State Fair. The special will also allow military and nonmilitary guests alike to enjoy include a MRE cookoff, a showcase of military vehicles, and representatives from military organizations.

Veterans or military personnel must present valid military ID or proof of service at the box office. Free admission for Active Duty spouse and dependents will be available until 3 p.m. Military ID must be provided.

6. First Responder Day presented by Bloodsource: July 26

Law enforcement, firefighters, and first responder units can enjoy free Fair admission on July 26.

In order to obtain free admission, active first responders must present ID that shows first responder status at the gate. This offer does not include admission for family members or dependents of first responders.

7. Senior Savings Fridays, July 13, 20, and 27

Discounts will be available for seniors at the California State Fair on July 13, 20, and 27. Every Friday, seniors age 62 and older can enter the Fair for $10. Seniors will also be allowed to ride the Grand Carousel and the Giant Wheel for free.
