At least 10 shots fired during 20-person brawl at Manteca park

At least 10 shots were fired, striking parked cars. No one was injured.

A 20-person fight broke out and at least 10 gunshots were fired at a park in Manteca Monday evening, according to the Manteca Police Department.

The police department responded to a call at approximately 5 p.m. of a fight that occurred in the 1700 block of Hoyt Lane at Northgate Park.

At least 10 shots were fired, striking parked cars. No one was injured.

Neil Hafley Elementary School, located across the street, was placed on lockdown due to the shooting. Police say the fight and shooting were unrelated to the school.

A black Mercedes was seen fleeing the scene, police said.

The Manteca Unified School District released the following statement on the incident:

“At approximately 4:42pm, the East Union High School Junior Varsity softball team was offsite finishing practice at the Northgate Softball Complex, when gun shots were heard from the nearby public park. Coaches immediately responded by sheltering players behind the brick wall, until safely escorted by the Manteca Police Department off property. Parents were notified and all softball players were released home. East Union High School coaching staff was prepared and responded appropriately to ensure the safety of our students."
