Fearing bears, Placer County opens 3 locations to drop-off food spoiled during PG&E outage

Food that has gone bad during the PG&E outage can be dropped off at three locations in Placer County.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — In an effort to help deter bears and other wildlife from the smell of extra food waste, two agencies in Placer County are providing free places to throw away food that might have gone bad during the PG&E outage earlier this week.

The drop-off locations are a joint effort between Placer County Environmental Utilities and Recology Auburn Placer.

The food can come in its original packaging or containers. The following locations will have free food waste disposal though Monday, Oct. 14:

  • Recology Auburn Placer
    12305 Shale Ridge Rd.
    8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Meadow Vista
    2950 Combie Rd.
    8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Foresthill
    6699 Patent Road
    8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
