The body of a missing ski instructor has been found near a Lake Tahoe ski resort, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office.

Carson May, 23, had been missing since Jan. 15. His body was found Monday afternoon under five feet of snow in an area that was out-of-bounds for skiiers northeast of Sugar Bowl Resort.

The discovery was made by search and rescue dog teams at the last known location of May's cell phone.

May was last seen after he went skiing with his brother. He did not show up for his ride home.

Conditions during a five-day search that followed were described as "treacherous" by the sheriff's office. Avalanche warnings have posed safety concerns for search and rescue teams.
