California's corrections department agreed to not force sex offenders to post do-not-disturb signs on their doors for Halloween.
Last year, a sex offender from Chula Vista sued over the signs and rules saying it violated offenders due process and rights, making them targets from others.
California has a program in place called 'Operation Boo' that helps protects children while trick-or-treating on Halloween against sex offenders and this agreement affects Operation Boo because registered offenders must follow the rules of their state.
A few of the main special conditions of the program for sex offender registrants are a 5 p.m. — 5 a.m. curfew remaining in doors, all exterior lights must be turned off, no Halloween decorations and no offering any children candy.
