'Please slow down...lives depend on it.' CHP pleads with public after two adults, one child killed in Hwy. 50 crash

CHP said heavy rains and high speeds led to the crash.

Three people were killed in a car crash, just east of Placerville, Tuesday night.

According to CHP-Placerville, the driver of a 2005 Volvo going westbound on Hwy 50 lost control near Camino Heights. Due to the heavy rain, and speed that the 51-year-old driver was going, he lost control and spun out into the eastbound lanes of traffic, CHP said.

As the Volvo spun out into oncoming traffic, the driver of a Subaru Impreza had little time to react, and the front end of the car drove right into the right side of the Volvo.

The impact of the crash ejected the driver of the Subaru and a one-year-old girl who was sitting in the backseat. The driver was 39-years-old.

A woman sitting in the passenger seat was not ejected, but she and the driver died of their injuries at the scene. The one-year-old girl was taken to Marshall Hospital where she died of her injuries.

The Subaru driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital with major injuries. His condition is unknown. All involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Names have not yet been released.

"We have now had 4 fatal collisions with six deaths in our area since January 1," CHP Placerville said. "Many attributable to speed. Please slow down, be careful and get where you are going safely. Lives depend on it."
