Want to have some fun in the mountains without the price of a lift ticket?
Several resorts and parks in the Sierra give families a chance to enjoy the snow with out breaking the bank.
Kingvale Resort, for example, is a great place to go for playing and sledding. The resort, located off the Kingvale exit on Interstate 80, is only $10 per person.
Thanks to the SNO-Park program, there are many places along the Sierra Nevada that also provide affordable snow fun. The parks provide a place to for self-guided snow activities like snowmobiling, cross country skiing and more. Here are five places near the Sacramento area:
-Yuba Pass: Located on the south side of Highway 49 at Yuba Pass.
-Donner Summit: Located on the south side of I-80 at the Castle Peak exit beyond Boreal Inn.
-Blackwood Canyon: Located on the west side of Highway 89, three miles south of Tahoe City.
-Taylor Creek: Located on the west side of Highway 89, just north of Camp Richardson Road.
-Echo Lake: Located on the north side of US 50 at Echo Lake Road.

SNO-Parks are open seasonally between Nov. 1 and May 30. Visitors are required to display a parking permit for each vehicle parked at a SNO-Park. Day use permits are $5, or you can get a season permit for $25.
