Utilities Commission to hold public hearings on PG&E rate hikes

PG&E wants to raise its rates to "meet precautionary measures to further reduce wildfire risks."

CALIFORNIA, USA — The California Public Utilities Commission [CPUC] wants to hear from the public about Pacific Gas & Electric's [PG&E] request to increase rates.

PG&E wants to raise its rates to "meet precautionary measures to further reduce wildfire risks," according to a press release from the commission.

The utility asked for CPUC's approval to increase its gas, electric distribution and electric generation revenues by:

  • $1.058 billion in 2020 
  • $454 million in 2021
  • $486 million in 2022

The public participation hearings will begin with a brief presentation on the proceeding and an overview of PG&E's rate request before opening the floor to public comments.

All of the meetings listed below start at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

July 17, 2019: Stockton (State of California Building Auditorium, 31 E. Channel St.)

July 18, 2019: Chico (Butte County Association of Government Chambers, 326 Huss Ln., Suite 100)

July 24, 2019: Oakland (Elihu M. Harris State Office Building Auditorium, 1515 Clay St.)

July 25, 2019: San Jose (Alfred E. Alquist State Office Building Auditorium, 100 Paseo de San Antonio) 

July 26, 2019: San Luis Obispo (County Government Center, County Board of Supervisors' Chamber, 1055 Monterey St.)

July 31, 2019: Santa Rosa (Santa Rosa City Hall Council Chamber, 100 Santa Rosa Ave.) 

The Santa Rosa meeting can be watched online on the City of Santa Rosa's Facebook and YouTube pages. People can also listen in on the meeting by calling: 1-877-937-0554, passcode: 7031793. 

Santa Rosa residents will can view the broadcast through the television on the Government Channels (Comcast 28 or AT&T 72)
