Crews in Stockton were called to the scene of a five-alarm fire at an apartment complex on the north side of town.

Firefighters responded to the complex, located in the 8200 block of Acapulco Way. Once on scene, firefighters reported seeing heavy smoke and flames pouring from the building.

Authorities tell ABC10 one civilian at the scene had to be taken to the hospital after suffering a "heat-related" injury. The American Red Cross offered assistance to displaced residents. The Red Cross issued a statement, Monday night, saying that many as 22 adults and 10 children are without a home because of the fire.

A spokesperson for the fire department says such a high priority was placed on the fire because it was high heat and wind driven. A preliminary investigation of the scene indicated the fire may have originated from a pair of cars parked under an adjacent carport.

Because of the size and response to this fire by the Stockton Fire Department, county agencies were asked to fill in at the fire stations to help assist, in case of other emergencies.
