Police are investigating alleged vandalism at the Islamic Center of Davis.
Members of the Islamic center told Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) officials they returned to the center Sunday morning to find windows smashed and what appeared to be bacon left on a door handle.
Davis Police are calling this a hate crime.
"Here in Davis I was initially shocked," said Amr Zedan, president of the Islamic Center of Davis. "We know that our neighbors are very welcome and we know this from experience and we've received a lot of support from the time we've been here and before I was president so I'm shocked something like this would happen."
Based on surveillance video, the suspect was only there for a few minutes.
Throughout the day Sunday, Davis residents came out to show support and gave flowers to members of the Islamic Center.
"Our feeling is 'nu uh' not in our town," said Ray Frank, Davis resident. "No way. This is not acceptable and will be resisted and we wanted to support the community."
"It means a lot to us and this is not the first this is expected from the Davis community," Zedan said. "We've always had support from our neighbors."
CAIR is also offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Davis Police describe the suspect as a white female adult, between 25-35 years old, 5'4"-5'8" tall and approximately 160-180 lbs.
