Some Americans quarantined at Travis Air Force Base expected to be released

On Tuesday morning, Jeffrey Ho's daily routine of temperature checks and social media posts at Travis Air Force Base will come to an end.

FAIRFIELD, Calif — Jeffrey Ho has been under quarantine at Travis Air Force Base since early February after returning home from a family trip to Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

On Tuesday morning, Ho, and several other people evacuated from China and quarantined at the base will finally be allowed to leave. The evacuees are part of the first wave of people to be quarantined weeks ago at the base for 14 days.

Ho, who has been documenting on Instagram his stay at the Air Force base, told ABC10 that while he's eager to head back home, leaving the base will be bittersweet.

"There's nothing for us to really do," Ho said of his seemingly relaxing time at the base. "I just have to make sure I wake up in time for a temperature check and do a temperature check at night."

In an interview last week with ABC10, Ho said he'd left to China with his wife and one-year-old so that they could celebrate Chinese New Year with their family in Wuhan.

Ho decided to evacuate China, but his wife and their one-year-old stayed behind with their family.

On Monday, health officials said there are more than 71,400 confirmed cases of the virus, about 98% of which are in China. So far, at least 1,775 have died from the virus.

Only 15 people in the U.S. have been confirmed to have the coronavirus with no reported deaths.

Ho was never diagnosed with Coronavirus, though, so with good health and plenty of time, he spent it documenting his life on the base on social media. But on Tuesday morning, Ho's daily routine of temperature checks and social media posts at the base will come to an end.

"The first group that comes is going to be cleared," Ho explained. "We're going to get our last temp check, and if everything works out, we're going to get a wrist band saying that we're clear to leave and our paperwork."

While Ho is expected to be cleared to leave, his flight back home to San Benardino isn't scheduled until Wednesday.

Though Ho will be heading back home, he will still have to wait to reunite with his wife and baby daughter who are still with family in a Chinese town that has had low confirmed cases of Coronavirus.

Still, Ho said he would not mind spending one extra day at the base.

"I kind of enjoy it here," he said, "I think I will kind of miss it, but at the same time, it's time to get back to reality."
