California drivers will soon face more restrictions using their smartphones while driving.

Earlier this week, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill expanding existing laws, banning people from using their phones while driving unless they have a hands-free device. The additions prohibit other cell phone uses while driving, such as taking photos or streaming video.

Assemblyman Bill Quirk (D-Hayward), the bill's author, said in a press release that technological advances in cell phones made these additions a necessity.
