After 24 years in business, a popular video rental store is pressing the stop button for the last time. Awesome Video in Land Park is closing its doors.
Mai Thu started working at the rental store back in 1994. It was her first after leaving her home in Vietnam.
"It's so sad that it has come to this point, that I have to let it go," said Thu.
Movies helped Thu learn American culture and speak English more fluently. She bought the store from her boss in 2004, working the counter seven days a week.
"I just really loved the customers," said Thu.
Awesome Video out lasted bigger rental stores like Blockbuster but business has really been dropping in the past few years.
"The locals, they support me, but its not enough," she said.
Thu is preparing to sell all 10,000 movies on her shelves. Many of which are hard to find films.
"I am not taking anything with me," said Thu. "Nothing but my memories but nothing else."
Your last chance to buy that hard to find film is April 15, when Awesome Video will be selling off all the inventory.
