Police: 4 bodies found inside South Land Park home following homicide

The Sacramento Police Department says they are investigating a homicide involving four bodies in South Land Park Thursday.

The Sacramento Police Department says they are investigating a homicide involving four bodies in South Land Park Thursday.

The location of the incident was in the 1100 block of 35th Avenue, where police say the four bodies were found inside a home.

At approximately 7 a.m. a family member called police for a welfare check which led to the discovery. The relative told police they believed, "something was amiss." Sac PD Public Information Officer Linda Matthew said they don't believe this is a random act and that the victims knew the suspect.

The area where the home sits is a small community with a mix of families and older residents, data from the housing website Trulia shows. According to Sacramento police online data, this is the first homicide in the area since 2010.

The area saw some minor crimes in the past, but most were theft related.

ABC10 has confirmed the home where the incident happened is a rental.

A person has been detained in San Francisco, according to the Sacramento Police Department, but no arrests have been made. Officer Giselle Talkoff, Public Information Officer for the San Francisco Police Department, confirmed they assisted the Sacramento PD in detaining the person. The person was detained in the area of Pierce Street and Golden Gate Avenue in San Francisco.

Sacramento Police are also in San Pablo following leads.

On Thursday afternoon, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg issued a statement on the incident.

“This was a horrifying incident but thanks to the rapid response and good work of our Police Department, the suspect has already been arrested," the statement from the mayor read. "All our hearts here at City hall go out to the victims, their families, schools and community. As a city, we stand ready to embrace the families and community in anything we can do to help. It’s extremely tragic.”

The investigators expect to be at the scene throughout the day Thursday and into Friday. A specific motive has not been determined and the case remains very active.
