Police are investigating the murder of a retired Lodi doctor, shot to death Wednesday night in front of his home.

Police responded to the scene, in the 1100 block of Rivergate Dr., just before 10 p.m. for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found Dr. Thomas Shock, 67, lying on the ground in front of the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

First responders rushed into action to try and resuscitate Shock, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators processed the scene, speaking to possible witnesses and checking video surveillance. Still, no arrests have been made and no possible motive for the murder has been released.

On Thursday, members of Shock’s family issued a statement on the murder, saying, in part, “Tom’s family is devastated at the loss. He was happily married to his wife Nancy for 45 years and was a loving father to his three grown children. He was a loving grandfather of five. He was the sort of grandpa who got down on his knees and played, who encouraged athletics and achievement in school. The distance to Oregon, the distractions of work were never an obstacle. He did not live to see the birth of his daughter’s first child.”

According to the family statement, Shock had only recently retired after a 33-year career as a podiatrist.
