MERIDIAN - Heroes come in all shapes and sizes - even dog size.

Eleven-year-old Jaxson the pug likely saved the lives of his family when he alerted them to a house fire.

The August 29 fire started at an electrical outlet, and Jaxson started barking until one of his owners, Todd Lavoie, came to check it out.

Todd was able to put out a small fire and call the Meridian Fire Department.

His owners, Lavoie and Mikaela Sebree, say the fire could have been much worse if it were not for Jaxson.

Because of his actions, Jaxson is the first dog to be awarded the Meridian Hometown Hero Award.

The City of Meridian's Hometown Hero Award honors outstanding bravery by a person - or now an animal.
