MODESTO, Calif. -- Family, friends and the community will gather Thursday, to honor a Stanislaus Sheriff's Deputy killed in the line of duty last month.

Deputy Tony Hinostroza was killed in a traffic accident on Nov. 26, 2018 while helping Riverbank Police officers in a car chase, according to sheriff's officials.

The deputy was a 19-year-veteran with the department and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

"Tony died while trying to protect the people of Stanislaus County," said Stanisalaus County Sheriff Sergeant Tom Letras, in a previous interview with ABC10. "We were trying to get a drunk driver off the road, and — you know, his whole life was dedicated to serving the public."

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 at The House Modesto on 1601 Coffee Road.

Those who cannot make it to Deputy Hinostroza's funeral are invited to join in a procession from the church to his grave site at Lakewood Memorial Park. The procession will begin at 11:45 a.m. and begins at the intersection of Coffee Road and Briggsmore Avenue. Here is the route they will take:

  • Starting at The House Church on Coffee Road
  • Coffee Road to Briggsmore Avene
  • Briggsmore Avenue to Claus Road
  • Claus Road to Yosemite Boulevard
  • Yosemite Boulevard to Santa Fe Avenue
  • Santa Fe Avenue to Lakewood Memorial Park

The Stanislaus Sheriff's Department expects there will be traffic delays due to a large number of cars in the procession. In addition, Southbound Coffee Road will be closed between Floyd Avenue and Briggsmore Avenue from 7:00 a.m. until around 1:00 p.m.
