Car stolen in Modesto with two children asleep in backseat

The children were later found with the vehicle, unharmed and still sleeping.

MODESTO, Calif. — Two children were asleep the backseat of a vehicle that was stolen from a Modesto driveway on Sunday, according to the Modesto Police Department.

The vehicle was stolen from a home in the 100 block of East Morris Avenue around 5:36 p.m., police say. A 911 caller reported a Blue Acura SUV being stolen out of their own driveway.

A 3-year-old and 4-year-old were asleep in the back seat when the car was stolen. They were later found, safe and still asleep in the backseat.

Police located the vehicle in 900 block of McHenry Avenue shortly after. A man wearing a black shirt was reportedly seen running from the vehicle, police say. The department searched the surrounding neighborhood but could not locate the man.
