The city of West Sacramento has launched a new, on-demand ridesharing service that will take customers anywhere in the city for $3.50.
As part of a grant from the city, West Sacramento has partnered with New York-based ridesharing app Via to offer discounted rides between any locations in West Sacramento. The flat rate per ride is $3.50 and $1.50 for seniors.
"The Via launch we're doing today is so critical," West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon said during the announcement Monday. "It's providing mobility and public transit in a completely different way that brings together what we've learned over the past decade that it's possible to provide customized personalized reliable, efficient, fast service anywhere in a community like ours."
Right now, there are 10 Mercedes-Benz vans -- each capable of carrying six passengers -- roaming the streets.
The year-long pilot program runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Customers can book a ride through the Via app or call 916-318-5101.
