An Oakdale man is now facing vandalism and assault charges after he climbed onto a historic building and began pulling parts off the roof and throwing them at police when asked to come down.

22-year-old Anthony Lucero climbed on top of the Oak Valley Community Bank in downtown early Saturday morning.

When officers arrived they asked Lucero to come down using a fire escape ladder. He refused and became belligerent.

Refusing to listen to officers, Lucero began pulling parts of the roof off and throwing it at police below.

One officer was hit in the leg from the falling debris, but was not seriously injured.

Eventually officers were able to talk Lucero off the rooftop. He was arrested and charged with Vandalism, Trespassing, Assault on a Police Officer, and Violation of Parol.
