Person dies in Antelope after shooting himself in front of deputies, sheriff's office says

In addition to the self-inflicted wound, the sheriff's office says a deputy also shot at the person during the incident, but they don't know if the person was hit.

ANTELOPE, Calif. — A person is dead after shooting himself in front of Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said.

The incident took place around Walerga Road and Elverta Road in Antelope. The sheriff's office said authorities were responding to reports of a person with a gun, and tried to contact him when that person "appeared to have shot himself in front of deputies."

According to the sheriff's office, a caller told them the person was holding a gun to his own head before deputies arrived.

In addition to the self-inflicted wound, the sheriff's office says a deputy also shot at the person during the incident, but they don't know if the person was hit.

Detectives are still investigating the scene.
