A Placer County firefighter was killed in a motorcycle crash early Friday morning.

The South Placer Fire District announced the passing of Firefighter Paramedic David Yolk in a press release.

According to the release, Volk was a 5-year veteran at the department, assigned to station 17. He was an arson investigator and a representative for the firefighters’ union.

Volk also served in the Marine Corps for three years and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in combat, according to the release.

Details of the crash have not yet been released.
