A Placerville High School student was selected by the El Dorado Progressives to represent students and the northern California community at the 'March For Our Lives' rally in Washington.

Anika Schmidt, of Placerville, was one of seven other students who were able to meet with the assistant to Congressman Tom McClintock to discuss safety.

The senior student -- though not anti-gun -- is on the side of safety for students, background checks of guns, the enforcement of those guns and current gun laws.

"When the Constitution was written folks were carrying muskets, not automatic and semi-automatic weapons capable of shooting 6-16 bullets per second and inflicting so much injury and death so fast," Schmidt said.
