Pedestrian was kneeling in the road before deadly collision in Citrus Heights, police say

The pedestrian who was struck and killed in Citrus Heights, Thursday night, was kneeling in the middle of the street before he was hit, police say.

The identity of the victim has not been released, with police only describing the person as a 22-year-old male.

According to their investigation, police say the victim was kneeling in the “number one” lane of westbound Antelope Road, facing east, before he was struck by a pickup. The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The driver was not speeding nor were they under the influence of any substances, according to police. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

All lanes on Antelope Road are open after a vehicle hit a pedestrian late Thursday night in Citrus Heights, police said.

The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 7000 block of Antelope Road, shutting the streets down from Mariposa Avenue to Sunrise Boulevard.

The condition of the injured pedestrian is unknown.

Authorities are on the scene of a reported involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Citrus Heights, Thursday night.

Police officers were called out to the crash in the 7000 block of Antelope Road around 9:30 p.m. Few details are known at this time. One victim was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.

According to police, Antelope Road has been shut down from Mariposa Avenue to Sunrise Boulevard while crews work the scene. The roadway is expected to remain closed for several hours. Drivers are asked to take alternate routes.
