Evacuations lifted following gas leak in Rancho Cordova

Between 12 and 15 homes have been evacuated along Folsom Boulevard near Mira del Rio Drive, because of the possible leak.

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Multiple homes had to be evacuated because of a gas leak in Rancho Cordova, Metro Fire reported.

Between 12 and 15 homes were evacuated along Folsom Boulevard near Mira del Rio Drive, because of the leak, according to Metro Fire of Sacramento.

Investigators said a private contractor conducting an underground trenching operation in the area struck an unmarked gas line. The accident created three separate breaks in the line causing the asphalt to buckle, officials said. Gas could be seen shooting out from the buckled asphalt.
