Bank robbery suspect captured after crash in Roseville

According to police, there have been nine bank robberies in Roseville since March 2018 and investigators believe Michael Anthony Tapia, 69, may have been involved in some of those.

A bank robbery suspect is behind bars, but not before leading Roseville Police on a chase that ended with a crash and injuries to some innocent bystanders.

According to the report, 69-year-old Michael Anthony Tapia walked into the bank brandishing a firearm and demanding cash. A teller complied and Tapia fled the scene. Police quickly responded to the call and spotted a vehicle matching a description given by witnesses.

When officers tried to pull the vehicle over, Tapia sped off. Shortly after the chase began, police say Tapia crashed into two other vehicles and became trapped inside his car. Officers freed Tapia from the wreckage and took him to the hospital for treatment before being taken to the Placer County Jail. Tapia is facing several complaints, including bank robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and felony possession of a handgun.

Authorities say other people in the vehicles Tapia crashed into were also injured and treated for “minor to moderate” injuries. The specific number of injuries was not disclosed.

According to police, there have been nine bank robberies in Roseville since March 2018 and investigators believe Tapia may have been involved in some of those.
