Man dead after apartment fire in Sacramento

Two other people were taken to a hospital with less critical injuries, the fire department said. There is no update on their condition.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man is dead after an apartment fire Wednesday in Sacramento.

The Sacramento Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at a 10-unit apartment building around 3 a.m. in the 2900 block of 16th Avenue. A man was found in a unit on the second floor and he was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. He died at a hospital, according to the fire department.

Two other people were taken to a hospital with less critical injuries. There is no update on their condition.

People will not be able to return to their apartments this morning because although the fire burned on the second floor, there is water damage on the first floor making it unsafe, according to the fire department.

The Sacramento Fire Department put out the fire and is working to clean up the area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
