DMV to open earlier, add more Saturday hours at several Northern California locations

The Northern California locations that will be open on Saturday from 8 a.m to 5 p.m are Folsom, Fairfield, Merced, Modesto, Sacramento, Roseville, Tracy, and Yuba City.

Several DMV offices throughout the state are expanding their Saturday office hours starting on Saturday, Aug. 4 as part of an effort to address long wait times.

The Northern California locations that with new Saturday hours include Folsom, Fairfield, Merced, Modesto, Sacramento, Roseville, Tracy, and Yuba City. The hours will be from 8 a.m to 5 p.m.

The DMV began offering Saturday service in June. There are currently 43 field offices in California that offer weekend service. Those offices will be open Saturday, July 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. On August 4, an additional 17 field offices will open when Saturday service expands to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We apologize for the increased wait times. We continue to actively work on solutions to get customer transactions completed more efficiently,” DMV Director Jean Shiomoto said. “We will process all transactions except behind-the-wheel exams on Saturdays.”

In addition, beginning Monday July 16, the DMV will open at 7 a.m. in Auburn, Carmichael, Davis, Rocklin and Turlock on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Officials say they have been experiencing longer wait times ever since the DMV began issuing REAL ID cards, as well as the implementation of a new queuing system, and electronic driver license and ID card applications.
