1 dead, 5 injured in head-on crash east of Sacramento

The crash happened on southbound Eagles Nest Road, near Kiefer Road. Authorities say five of the victims were traveling in one car and a single victim in the second.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — At least one person is dead and five others injured after a head-on crash on a rural road east of Sacramento, Wednesday morning.

The crash happened on southbound Eagles Nest Road, near Kiefer Road, south of the Mather Golf Course. Five of the victims were traveling in one car and a single victim in the second car.

The solo driver was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Of the five people injured in the second car, two were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The other three victims only sustained minor injuries.

Investigators said they believe wet roads and excessive speeding to be the cause of the crash.

Traffic in the area is expected to be delayed for an indefinite amount of time while crews investigate.
