Homeless and Hopeful: Sacramento man finds help for classmate on Reddit

"I don't wanna sound cliche...but God put me and my son in his heart to stop and give us a ride."

A Sacramento man learned his classmate was homeless and found answers on how to help him on the social news content site Reddit.

Allen Paulk and Christopher Jay were going through a week-long training guard school program. A day after they both started, just this week, Jay saw Paulk walking with his teenage son and offered them a ride.

"I asked them where they were going and they said they were going to the bus stop. I said, 'No, don't worry about that. I'll take you wherever you need to go,' and they said oh, we live by over this address and we're staying in a tent over there. And that weighed kind of heavy for me. So, I started to think about how we resolve this problem," Jay said.

Paulk and his son have been homeless in Sacramento for several months. He's hoping to provide a home after he gets a job as a guard.

"I don't wanna sound cliche, or cornball, but God put me and my son in his heart to stop and give us a ride," Paulk said.

Jay did more than just give Paulk a ride. In just a few days after asking for help online, he found resources and places where Allen and his son can stay. People in his class are also helping him shop for new clothes, so Paulk can look good at his new job.

Both of them will graduate from class on Friday, and through help from some new friends, Paulk even has some possible jobs lined up.
