California State Prison, Sacramento officials have confirmed an incident did occur that resulted in a guard firing a weapon and injuring a prisoner Monday morning.

The incident, now reported as a fight that started in the main exercise yard began just before 10:30 a.m., involving at least four inmates, said Lt. Tony Quinn, a spokesman with the prison.

All four suffered injuries, officials said. One of which suffered a gunshot wound from a correctional officer's rifle. Another suffered multiple stab wounds.

Both prisoners were taken to an outside hospital by ambulance. They are reportedly in fair condition.

The other two inmates suffered minor injuries and were treated at the prison, officials said. There were no staff injuries reported.

Officials report officers recovered three inmate-made stabbing weapons.
