Questions linger in case of missing Sacramento man, found alive after 30 years

Few questions answered in case of Sacramento area man missing for more than 30 years.

Few questions have been answered in the case of Sacramento area man, found alive after being reported missing more than 30 years ago.

A woman found out what happened to her brother after receiving help from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Paige Kneeland works on missing persons cases with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department that have gone cold. Kneeland was the person who found Sandra McMahon's brother, Bobby, living in Wyoming and working as an executive chef.

On Facebook, there were a lot of questions as to what happened.

"We do have databases that the public doesn't have access to," Kneeland said. "We have criminal history databases. We have DMV databases, things like that, that the public doesn't necessarily have access to."

Kneeland said this is one of the few cases she's covered where the missing person was found and living an entirely new life.

Many people want to know what happened to the brother and why the brother left. McMahon said they lost touch with her brother in his 20's, around 1983, when they all lived in the Sacramento area. She wouldn't elaborate more, but says there were things that happened and they couldn't get a hold of him for several years, which turned into decades.

One of the first questions McMahon had for her brother was "Why?" but he didn't respond. She said it may take time for him to open up on what happened in the 30 years and for them to reconnect again.

The family first reported the man missing at a Missing in California event in June. Kneeland found the brother about a week later.

"He did have a drivers license," Kneeland said. "He does have some electronic footprints, but it would only be things law enforcement would have access to and be able to gain that information. It wouldn't be something she could easily find."

McMahon said the brother is planning to make a trip out to the Sacramento area in September to be reunited for the first time in person in more than 30 years. They're hoping to get answers as to what happened during that visit.
