Off-duty sheriff's deputy shot at outside downtown Sacramento building | Update

Police say the off-duty Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot at by a passing car.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — An off-duty Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot at by a passing car in Downtown Sacramento Tuesday morning.

Police reported to the scene of the shooting at 5th and I Streets just after 5:50 a.m. 

"The victim was not injured however the federal courthouse building nearby appeared to have been struck by gunfire from the suspect," a statement from the Sacramento Police Department said.

Roads have reopened in Sacramento near 5th Street, 6th Street, and I Street downtown.

The motive for the incident remains under investigation as detectives say they will be conducting a thorough canvass of the area.
