A kitchen in East Sacramento called Healthy Hounds is serving healthy and fresh meals for dogs.

All the meals use USDA products, are gluten free, and have no preservatives. Humans can try the meals but they're only recommended for dogs.

The business had its grand opening Sunday.

Lynette Jolley lives in East Sacramento and said her dog Auggie is in need of fresh meals.

"Auggie doesn't do well with certain standard dog foods like chicken and beef, so he has to have foods like fish or lamb," Jolley said.

Their meals use simple recipes with ingredients listed on their menu.

For example, the fish and sushi rice recipe uses USDA certified pollock, sushi-grade white rice, russet potatoes, zucchinis, green beans, apples, safflower oil, and Icelandic fish oil.

The idea to cook for dogs started at a home kitchen.

"I started cooking for my dog a couple of years ago, because I found out he had severe skin allergies and he also had a very sensitive stomach," said Chris Ouchida, of Healthy Hounds.

The prices vary per package but some start at a few dollars each.

Healthy Hounds plans on starting a delivery service next month.
