Sacramento Regional Transit unveils 'Rolling Library Train'

When stepping onboard, riders will feel like they're being transported to a library

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Regional Transit and the Sacramento Public Library has a new way to give riders access to reading materials on the way to their destination -- a library-themed train!

The walls and seatbacks inside the train car look like bookshelves lined with books.

"In those bookshelves are QR codes where you can access all different library resources," said Sacramento Regional Transit spokesperson, Jessica Gonzalez.

Resources will be available to riders through QR codes placed around the train. Riders will find downloadable e-books and audiobooks for students and adults.

The library lends more than books, too. People can borrow things from the library like a GoPro, lawnmower, or even a ukulele. These items can be reserved for free with a library card.

The rolling library train can be found on both the blue and gold light rail lines. It will be on the blue line on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays; and on the gold line on Thursdays, Friday, and Saturdays.
