Sacramento woman's Black Lives Matter signs stolen, destroyed

A Sacramento woman has had her Black Lives Matter signs destroyed or cut up several times in the past few weeks.

"The repeated theft and vandalism has just become confusing for me," said Kimberly Bell, who had her signs stolen and destroyed. "Sometimes I'm fearful because of it."

Earlier in December she said someone walked on her property while she was sitting in her front room, cut the sign into pieces and left.

She said she's become afraid to have the sign and installed a surveillance camera Sunday to put her Black Lives Matter sign up again. Overnight, someone slashed her tires.

Bell puts the sign back up over and over after what's happened to set an example to her son who is black.

"I keep putting it up because I don't want to be a family that allows others to censor us," Bell said. "I don't want to send the message to my son that just because someone doesn't like what we're saying we don't continue to say it. It's our right to have a very simple sign in our yard."

She believes the actions are personal. Another neighbor has the same sign and hasn't had any problems.

"I want people to understand that it's our right to feel the way we feel, think the way we think and it's our right to express it," Bell said. "Other people shouldn't censor us and we shouldn't be bullied to submission."

Bell filed a police report after someone slashed her tires Monday morning.
