The 'Omega Block' weather pattern explained

Upper level weather pattern that resembles the Greek letter, omega

The Omega Block is a upper level weather pattern that resembles the uppercase Greek Letter, omega.

The jet stream is pushed south on the west side (left side) of a low and the jet stream is pushed north, up around a high pressure. High pressure is sandwiched in between both upper level low pressure systems.

In today's forecast, precipitation, clouds and generally cooler weather are associated with the low pressure systems that are situations on both coasts. In the middle of the U.S., dry weather will be in the forecast.

This pattern will shift off to the east, and we will see sunny conditions starting on Tuesday.

Forecasters say elevations above 3,000 feet (914 meters) can expect 3 to 8 inches (7 centimeters to 20 centimeters) of snow.
