What to know about next week's aerial sprays in the Sacramento area

People in the spray areas are advised to stay inside and close windows and doors.

As the West Nile Virus threat intensifies in certain Sacramento areas, aerial sprays to stop mosquitoes that might carry the virus will take place next week.

Here's what you need to know about them.

WHEN: Monday and Tuesday between 8pm and Midnight.

WHERE: Elk Grove, Pocket and neighborhoods south of Fruitridge Rd. totaling 41,000 acres. (An interactive map of the exact areas can be found here.)

According to the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District, the aerial spray will be made using Trumpet EC, "an insecticide registered by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California EPA for use in mosquito control and routinely used throughout the United States to control mosquitoes."

People in the spray areas are advised to stay inside and close windows and doors.
