One dead, one injured in overnight South Sacramento shooting

According to Sacramento County Sheriff's officials, the shooting happened just after midnight in South Sacramento. The unidentified victims were found near a home at 42nd Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

One person was killed and another was injured early Tuesday morning during a shooting in Sacramento, sheriff's officials said.

One victim, a man in his early twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other male victim was transported to a hospital. He's expected to survive.

Officials say there are searching for several suspects who fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle, but there is no known motive.

"There is no immediate danger to the neighborhood at this time," said sheriff's spokesman Shaun Hampton. "Our homicide detectives are on scene here, and will remain on scene throughout the morning and possibly into the early afternoon."

Both 39th and 42nd avenues near MLK Boulevard will be closed to traffic until the afternoon.
