SPD investigating homicide in south Sacramento

A man was shot and killed leaving a Fourth of July party late Monday evening.

According to reports from the Sacramento Police Department, around 11:30 Monday, July 4, Steven Jackson was shot multiple times leaving a family party in south Sacramento, along the 2300 block of Matson Drive. Police said Jackson was driving away from a residence when he was shot, crashing into and knocking down a nearby light pole. Three children were in the car at the time, but were not injured.

Police do not have any suspects at this time, nor do they know if the victim was targeted. Investigators are asking for the community’s help with any information pertaining to this homicide.

The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this homicide to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
