5-year-old victim in triple homicide wanted to become a police officer

"It's been extremely difficult for the family to comprehend how someone is so heartless and cruel in murdering an entire family," said Lor.

Just feet from where gunfire took the lives of a young family of three, there is a growing memorial.

Bullet holes are now covered in the apartment stucco, but the emotional scars are still raw and open.

"In an instant, we lost three beautiful, innocent lives. It's been extremely difficult for the family to comprehend how someone so heartless and cruel did this to murder an entire family," said Cheng Lor.

Cheng Lor and his family lost three people that day: His younger brother, 22-year-old Joe Lor-- Joe's wife, 22-year-old Gina Xiong and their daughter, 5-year-old Kayleen.

They were shot to death inside an apartment in South Stockton in the 1600 block of 11th Street on Mother's Day night around 10 p.m.

Today, Stockton Police and Crime Stoppers announced an increased reward of $30,000 for the tip that leads to the arrest of the person or people responsible.

"At this point our homicide investigators have no motive or active leads in this case. We want to know why this family and home were targeted," said Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones.

"Together we can solve this crime. Together, with you providing us information and insight into what occurred, we can bring justice for these three," said San Joaquin County District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar.

On a large poster with a portrait of the three killed, many have left messages of hope and inspiration.

One says, "RIP my brother we're forever going to miss you. Watch out for us."

Still in the neighborhood, there is an around-the-clock police presence.

That includes a special police vehicle called STOP or Stockton Police Observation Truck.

It is recording video 24/7 with a 360-degree camera right across the street from the scene of the shooting.

"We are asking for your help for the millions of questions that we have," said Cheng Lor.

As Cheng Lor read from his short, but emotional prepared statement, his mother cried while clutching tightly to a picture of her granddaughter.

Turns out Kayleen had told her family that she wanted to become a police officer one day.

Those officers that inspired her can only hope for justice for the little girl now.
