Another Stockton ice cream vendor attacked; witness comes to his aid

Another ice cream vendor in Stockton was attacked this summer, the second known attack since early July.

Ask any ice cream vendor in Stockton and they will tell you it is a dangerous job.

On Thursday, Aug. 2, another vendor was attacked.

Stockton Police say it happened around 6 p.m. near North Pilgrim Street and East Main Street. The victim was pushing his ice cream cart through the area when one suspect pushed him to the ground and demanded money. When the ice cream vendor refused, two more suspects surrounded him.

However, a witness rushed to the vendor's aid and was able to chase away the three suspects who took off on bicycles. The vendor refused medical aid and nothing was taken. Perez survived and is recovering.

Police say the suspects were boys, all between 12-15 years old.

About a half dozen ice cream vendor attacks have happened so far this year in Stockton.

Two weeks ago, 48-year-old Bernardo "El Chilango" Perez was shot in his shoulder after being attacked selling flavored slushes from his bicycle cart at Stockton's Constitution Park.
