Original Story:

The Stockton Police Department is investigating the shooting of a man by officers in the West Lane area, just west of Highway 99.

Officers responded to a neighborhood near Castle Oaks Drive and Marlboro Court around 11:30 a.m. for reports of a man behaving erratically and carrying a bat, according to the department.

When told to drop the bat, police said that the man refused, and swung the bat while moving toward them. At that time, an officer shot and hit the man. He was taken to the hospital where the department said he is now in critical condition.

Both officers involved were unharmed.

The Stockton Police Department is investigating the shooting with the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office and the State Department of Justice.
