Friends and family lit candles in memory of 32-year-old Jose Nunez Jr.

"Heartbroken, sad, he's young," said Nunez's cousin, Laura Garcia, "32 years old, has two young kids, a 3 and 5 year old."

Nunez was found in front of his home suffering gunshot wounds Tuesday evening. The next day, it's the place where people burned candles and paid their respects.

"We were like super shocked," said his sister, Rosario Nunez. "I can't believe he's dead,"

To say the family has gone through a lot, would be an understatement.

A week ago, they were forced to say goodbye to Nunez's cousin, 3-year-old Melanie Martinez.

She was in the car with family when the vehicle was hit by gunfire.

"Just a week ago and now we're heartbroken with Jose," Garcia said. "A lot of emotions. Our family is just heartbroken and it's really hard to explain what we're going through during these difficult times."

Stockton Police are looking at both cases to see if the two are connected and are asking people to come forward if they have any information.
