Teen killed in Carmichael shooting, 13-year-old considered suspect

At approximately 1 p.m., officials say several shots were fired in and around an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Manzanita Ave in Carmichael.

A 16-year-old was killed in an apartment complex shooting in Carmichael Sunday afternoon, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

At approximately 1 p.m., officials say several shots were fired in and around an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Manzanita Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies found Zachary Whittington of Carmichael suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and later pronounced him dead at the scene.

At about 1:25 p.m., a caller told sheriff's deputies a male with a handgun was near the 6000 block of Bourbon Drive, about one mile away from the shooting. The male, a 13-year-old, was detained by authorities after responding to the location.

The teen is now a suspect in the fatal shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
