TUOLUMNE COUNTY, Calif. — Tuolumne County Sheriff’s deputies finished an investigation where a man was killed after walking into another couple’s tent.

On Thursday, Deputies had responded to a possible shooting at Deadman’s campground in Stanislaus National Forest. Deputies had found one man dead from a gunshot wound.

The sheriff’s office said that reports indicated a man and his girlfriend were sleeping in their tent when an unassociated man, 36 of Watsonville, went into it around 2 a.m.

According the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, the woman woke up to the man on top of her and yelled to wake up her boyfriend next to her in the tent. The sheriff's department said the Watsonville man was shot during the confrontation and died. 

Investigators are working closely with the District Attorney’s office on the case and no arrests have been made. Names have not been released at this time.
