Where to fuel up your car during a power outage

GasBuddy activated a tracker that lets users know which gas stations have power and gasoline.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — GasBuddy is making it easier for people to find out where they can fuel up their cars, propane tanks or other vehicles during power outages.

GasBuddy announced earlier this month people in different regions of California could search on their outage tracker to find whether a local gas station is open. The gas-price monitoring site activated the availability tracker for Northern California in reaction to Pacific Gas and Electric's precautionary power outage that left nearly 850,000 people without electricity.

Without electricity, gas stations cannot pump gas unless they have a generator or an alternate source of power.

When a user types in "Northern California" on GasBuddy, they can see gas stations in Northern California that have power and gas.

GasBuddy runs on user reports. If a user comes to a gas station and finds the gas station without power, they can report this on GasBuddy to help the next person.

There is a web and mobile application for GasBuddy.
