Mendocino Forest Service working to contain two fires

The fires began June 17 and are located about 23 miles of Covelo in Trinity County.

WILLOWS, Calif. — Firefighters were able to contain one of two fires that started June 17 in Trinity County, according to a release from Mendocino National Forest Service. 

The Haynes Fire is 99% contained at 23 acres. Crews plan to extinguish any remaining smoldering vegetation near the containment line, according to the release.

The East Fire is 378 acres and 5% contained. The fire service said crews plan to reinforce the confinement area between East Ridge, Buck Ridge, and Wrights Ridge as the fire spreads south.

At least 120 personnel are working on the two fires, which includes smoke-jumpers, hotshot crews, wildland fire modules, EMTs, helicopters, and support staff, according to the fire service.

The forest service is asking wilderness hikers to avoid traveling near Buck Ridge and Wrights Ridge.
