Winter storm has skiers, snowboarders excited for fresh snow

SODA SPRINGS, Calif. — The National Weather Service is predicting a moderate to heavy Winter storm in the Sierra from Sunday night to Monday morning, which has skiers and snowboarders hopeful for fresh powder.

Snowboarder Lucas Dodson, a University of Nevada Reno student, said the conditions at Boreal Mountain Resort were icy and not quite great for the slopes just yet.

“Snow's not the best," Dodson said, "but hopefully, as you can see, we’re getting some more snow. So hopefully conditions will improve.”

Tucker Norred with Boreal Mountain says the resort isn’t fully opened yet, but says the storm will make it just in time for the holidays.

Cal Trans District 3 tweeted late Sunday night that chain controls were placed in effect along Interstate 80.

The storm is also bringing about an inch of rain to the Sacramento Valley. Although, no major accidents have been reported.
